Age-Friendly Home
Almere Oosterwold

This age-friendly (life-cycle proof) home is located in the unique neighborhood of Oosterwold in Almere. If certain basic rules are followed, residents here are granted great freedom to shape their dream homes. The spacious plots make the area especially suitable for single-level, age-friendly residences.

The client wanted to build a home using sustainable and healthy materials. The exterior finish of the taller building volumes, where the living spaces are situated, consists of lime plaster. For the lower sections (storage, office, entrance), Platowood Fraké cladding with open joints was used. These spaces are incorporated into blocks with rounded corners that slide under the roofline. By using narrow vertical Platowood cladding (90 mm), the curves can be followed smoothly.

Architect Erik Knippers:

”Platowood Fraké provides a sleek appearance without knots. This allows the form of the rounded volumes to take center stage. The long lifespan of the wood, its natural greying, and the environmentally friendly process are key reasons for me to choose Platowood. I particularly like using Fraké for its warm color and subtle grain. The client is very satisfied. The visual effect of the rounded elements turned out beautifully.”
