The European poplar grows close to home and comes from FSC® and PEFC™-certified forests. Thanks to the unique platowood process, Platowood Poplar has a long lifespan and can be used for high-quality applications. The wood product feels soft to the touch, is lightweight, and has a calm grain pattern.

Durability class 1

Poplar is known as a wood species with low durability. Through platonisation, the wood goes from durability class 5 to 1.

Calm appearance

Platowood Poplar naturally has a calm appearance. Unlike spruce, poplar contains few knots.

Locally harvested

Did you know that a large portion of our poplar wood comes from PEFC™-certified Flemish forests? By harvesting the wood close to our factory, we reduce transport emissions.

Low environmental costs

Platowood Poplar has an exceptionally low environmental cost indicator (€0.26). Compared to alternatives, this is quickly 5 to 25 times better.

Platowood Poplar exudes calm. It is characterized by its uniform grain, subtle line pattern, and refined color variations. The wood feels soft to the touch, is lightweight, and has a warm, golden-brown hue thanks to the process. Like our other wood types, Platowood Poplar offers many advantages. In addition to its dimensional stability, environmentally friendly and low-maintenance properties, the wood is easy to work with and lasts at least 25 years.

Platowood Poplar has durability class 1. With our 100% natural fire-retardant treatment, Euro fire class B can be achieved. However, tests have shown that untreated Platowood Poplar did not achieve fire class D for use in a façade configuration. This is of course not the outcome we had hoped for, but we consider it important to deliver a safe and responsible product.

The good news is that Platowood Poplar can still achieve fire class D with a coating, or even fire class B in combination with a fire-retardant treatment by Hestus.

The prices of our wood depend on the cross-section, profile, and finish. Platowood works exclusively with a dealer network, who set their own prices. For current retail prices, you can contact your nearest dealer.

No, Platowood uses only water and heat to enhance the durability of the wood. First, it is steamed under high pressure and then baked in our gas-free factory in Arnhem.

Our process does not add anything to the wood; it alters its chemical and mechanical properties, giving it a very high durability class.
