Villa K340
The Hague

Situated in the park-like residential area of Vroondaal in The Hague, on the edge of the Madestein nature and recreation reserve, this distinctive villa stands out through its refined material contrast. Lime plaster is combined with raw Platowood Fraké. To create a dynamic façade composition, boards of varying widths were used. Opposite these rugged materials are sleek, high-tech aluminum window frames.

Please note: this project was completed with an outdated version of the Natural finish. Curious about our new colours? Order a free sample!

The use of raw Platowood wood aligns perfectly with the architect’s vision to preserve the natural look and feel of the material. That’s why the wood was applied untreated, allowing it to weather and grey naturally over time. Both the client and architect appreciate the wood’s natural appearance and the subtle, silver-grey transformation it undergoes. In the photos—taken just two months after completion—the weathering is already clearly visible.

Architect Francois Verhoeven:

”I don’t know any other type of wood that starts with such a warm tone and also weathers so beautifully—and so quickly. Even in shaded areas, Platowood holds its aesthetic quality. I really enjoy working with raw Platowood Fraké for its organic look. The range of widths and the slight thickness variations in the rough boards make the façade more visually interesting, especially when hit by grazing light. Combined with clean aluminum frames, the result is a façade that feels both refined and high-end.”
