Private Residence De Els
Beekbergen

Both the roof and façade of this striking home in Beekbergen are clad in Platowood Spruce, giving the residence a robust appearance that blends naturally with the surrounding landscape. The main building is finished with Weathered, while the rear garden room features a darker finish to subtly recede from view. This secondary structure was designed to be subordinate to the main volume and draw less attention.

Please note: this project was completed with an outdated version of the Weathered Color Oil finish. Curious about our new colours? Order a free sample!

Architect Richerd Pul:

”The client had several key wishes—most notably, a single-level home and the use of pre-greyed wood so the final appearance would be visible immediately. I searched for a wood type that weathers attractively. After requesting reference images from Platowood, we opted for Platowood Spruce with a Weathered finish. In addition to its pre-greying properties, I enjoy working with Platowood because it’s environmentally friendly and low-maintenance.”

A timber home with clear lines

An old farmhouse previously stood on the plot. While there was some initial consideration to renovate, the decision was made to build a new home—but not a conventional one. Trees had to be felled for construction, and in a symbolic gesture, the wood cladding brings their presence back into the visual narrative of the site.

Richerd Pul:
“What defines the design are the clear, unified lines and surface divisions with seemingly minimal detailing. Some parties were skeptical about using wood on the roof. Thanks to the collaboration with the contractor and Platowood, we were able to execute the design exactly as envisioned.”
