Secoya Campus Camping
Utrecht

Secoya Campus comprises five office buildings near Papendorp in Utrecht. By relocating parking underneath the existing buildings and onto newly built decks, the former asphalted parking area has been transformed into a green recreational space. The parked vehicles are visually concealed by screens clad with Platowood Spruce slats, with a Weathered finish. To achieve the optimal balance of aesthetics, ventilation, daylight, and privacy, the slats were installed in varying dimensions and a dynamic rhythm across the screens.

Please note: this project was completed with an outdated version of the Natural finish. Curious about our new colours? Order a free sample!

Petrouschka Thumann, Rijnboutt Architecten:

“At Rijnboutt, sustainability is a key priority. Platowood’s timber aligns perfectly with that ambition. We prefer to work with materials sourced as locally as possible—such as European Spruce—and Platowood modifies the wood through a fully sustainable process. The wood’s low maintenance was also an important requirement for the client. The weathered spruce complements the surrounding buildings and paving. Since not all slats are exposed to the same conditions, finishing them with Weathered was the perfect solution to avoid uneven discoloration.”

To ensure uniform greying, the wood was treated with Weathered — a natural, eco-friendly finish based on linseed that provides pre-greying for thermally modified wood. Over time, the coating fades, allowing the underlying wood to continue greying naturally.
