A circular swimming building: that was the goal of the owners of ONS BUITEN. The building, clad with untreated Platowood Fraké, has now been standing in wind and weather for 6 years.

Due to the outdoor climate, the wood has naturally undergone Natural Weathering. Architect Facet chose a striking façade layout with random pattern, barcode profile and difference in thickness. That combination gives the façade a lively appearance and makes it possible to use short lengths effectively, resulting in less waste.

Henri Poppe, project manager at construction company Meliskerke, is satisfied with Platowood Fraké: “The wood has discoloured nicely and was easy to process during installation”. Together with a structure of HSB and reused hardwood for the interior finish, the swimming building forms a circular whole.

That the building remains in such good condition is not surprising. Construction company Meliskerke works a lot with wood and has already applied Platowood in many projects. As a result, the wood has been carefully installed and receives the necessary attention from the owners every year. It is maintained with an algae remover, keeping the silvery hue of the weathered fraké clearly visible.
