Boomerang Bungalow
Noordwijk

The 1970s make a comeback—this time without the dusty reputation. The Boomerang Bungalow, designed by architect Donald Osborne, is a striking and inviting residence where indoor and outdoor spaces flow seamlessly into each other. Platowood Fraké was used on the exterior, infused with a hint of interior design sensibility.

The house is surrounded by 150 m² of veranda, where Platowood cladding plays a vital role. The seating areas are recessed into the façade, creating a unique ambiance. It’s not quite indoors, but it doesn’t feel entirely like the outdoors either. “Fraké is easy to work with and install, which allows you to bring an ‘interior finish’ to the exterior,” says Donald.

“Wood invites interaction; it’s tactile and welcoming. I wanted to carry those qualities outdoors as well.”

The design is bold, energy-efficient, and environmentally conscious, making the bungalow one with its forested garden surroundings. “Wood is essential to that experience,” Donald adds. For the finish, the residents chose Natural finish, which helps retain the wood’s original color. Donald is no stranger to Platowood—he’s been using our wood in his projects for years. We always enjoy seeing how he finds unique ways to apply it. Enthusiastic about this project? Be sure to also take a look at Villa V, another Platowood Fraké design in Noordwijkerhout.
