Environmental statement
Platowood

Environmental performance According to the Bbl (Decree on Building Works and Living Environment), it is mandatory to calculate the environmental performance of a building. The environmental performance of the building is an important measure of its sustainability. The lower the score in the environmental statement, the more environmentally friendly the building is.

To make this impact measurable and comparable, a database is used that shows the environmental load of applied materials. These are called environmental statements. All Platowood wood types are included in the National Environmental Database (NMD) with excellent scores.

Environmental costs and functional unit of Platowood

The environmental costs of materials are expressed in the NMD with a euro symbol (€). These are not direct financial costs but represent “environmental costs”—the shadow price that reflects the environmental impact of materials. This gives architects, developers, and builders insight into the impact of different materials. The costs are determined based on a functional unit. For Platowood, the functional unit is: “The production, application, and waste processing of one square meter of platonised wood, suitable for façade cladding and window frames, with a lifespan of 30 years.”

Our wood products have a minimum lifespan of 50 years. However, for the category in which Platowood wood falls, a maximum lifespan of 30 years is used in the calculations.
