When you think of a shipping container, do you picture industry and cold steel? Think again. This container is entirely constructed from Platowood Fraké and casts the concept of a "shipping container" in a new light. It demonstrates what a warm, soft material—combined with craftsmanship—can achieve.
Makers Luc Kolkman and Kevin van Braak, along with a small team, built the container in a short timeframe, turning technical drawings into a fully realized flat-pack construction. The detailing goes remarkably far: even the hinges, rubber seals, and handles are crafted from our wood. The stepped paneling seen in conventional steel containers is echoed in this wooden version.
The container invites you to look differently—and appreciate differently. It encourages reflection on things we often take for granted. Not just the result, but also the process is central: finding the extraordinary in the everyday. A shipping container also symbolizes travel. There’s a sense of promise—you never quite know what will come out of it.
This wooden container emerged from a creative collaboration with Schipper Bosch as initiator and now proudly stands at CleanTech Park Arnhem as a celebration of place.
