Renovated 1960s bungalow with clean stucco and warm Platowood Fraké

In the post-war Utrecht neighbourhood of De Meern, architect Viktor van Hooff and contractor Marvin Keeldar designed and renovated several 1960s bungalows — including this sunny home. The architect uses a clear and simple design language, combining clean white stucco with large windows and untreated Platowood Fraké cladding.

Architect Viktor van Hooff:
“I was introduced to Platowood — specifically Fraké — through Marvin Keeldar. During the renovation of his own home in the same street, we used Platowood Fraké, and since then, I’ve embraced it as well. Initially, it was an aesthetic choice: Fraké has a calm grain and is knot-free. But the wood’s sustainability also plays an important role, along with the fact that it’s low-maintenance and doesn’t require any finish.”
