The multifunctional building ‘Plein 6’ forms the new heart of the care park of ’s Heeren Loo in Noordwijk. The entire exterior of the building is clad in untreated Platowood Spruce. With the nearby dunes in mind, IAA Architecten aimed to use natural materials for this location and therefore opted for a fully wooden façade.
Architect Henk Gersen, IAA Architecten: “We reviewed many wood species. Platowood Spruce is a sustainable product and has a lively appearance. The grain remains visible, even after greying. The client wanted a guarantee that the wooden façade would be low-maintenance. That too was a reason to choose Platowood and to apply it untreated.”
