Platowood preferred supplier for project indeland (Germany)

In the area between Aachen and Cologne, large-scale lignite mining is still taking place. This must come to an end by 2030 at the latest. With the project indeland, municipalities in the region have joined forces to transform the area into Europe’s largest sustainable living, residential, and recreational zone. The craters created by lignite extraction will be filled with water, creating an attractive landscape with inland lakes. A shared commitment has been made: all future construction must be done sustainably.

For project indeland, the firm Faktor X is collaborating with Bimolab and RWTH Aachen University (Department of Recyclable Construction). Together, they are researching and engaging with suitable suppliers and manufacturers. As a result of this process, Platowood has been selected as the preferred supplier of wooden cladding for future developments in the region.

Positive prospects for the future and climate

The current global debate on climate change makes it clear that effective, immediate measures for significant CO₂ reduction are essential. The construction sector plays a pivotal role in this. A fundamental shift in building practices is necessary to meet the climate targets set in Paris. In recent decades, Germany has become a pioneer in energy efficiency. Construction methods and material choices are crucial in this, but often-overlooked aspects such as spatial efficiency and solar orientation also play a major role.

Faktor X stands for climate-neutral building, aiming to use raw materials as optimally as possible—essentially a cradle-to-cradle approach. Their goal is to use materials as efficiently as possible with the help of a custom-developed calculation tool. This enables savings of up to 25% or even 50% in material usage. A promising outcome to which Platowood is proud to contribute!
