The residence ‘De Zwarte Toren’ is located just outside the historic centre of Doesburg. Simplicity is at the heart of the design — both in functionality and in material choices. The materials used on the exterior have been carried through into the interior.
Platowood Fraké is applied throughout both the exterior and interior. To prevent colour variation between indoor and outdoor use, the wood was treated with a UV-protective finish across all applications. On the exterior, Platowood Fraké is used in a louvre structure as sun shading for the windows. These same louvres reappear in identical profiles on the façade and on various interior walls. Even some doors are clad in Platowood Fraké, creating a unified aesthetic.
Architect Huub Bieleman, Plan B studio: “The warm, dark tone of Platowood Fraké pairs beautifully with harder materials like steel and concrete. I often work with Platowood — it’s a fantastic product! It’s easy to work with and lighter than hardwood, which even allowed us to clad the doors in the same material. I also really value Platowood’s environmentally friendly modification process, and I prefer working with local suppliers. The garden is still to be completed, and the boundary fencing will also be made from Platowood Fraké.”
