Platowood has a new partner in fire retardancy: Hestus. Thanks to a fire-retardant treatment at Hestus, our wood can be upgraded from Fire Class D to Fire Class B — in a permanent, safe, and environmentally friendly way.
Our mission
Hestus and Platowood are closely connected and share the same vision on sustainability. Like Platowood, Hestus is located at Industriepark Kleefse Waard in Arnhem. This keeps logistics short — our wood doesn't need to be transported by truck for fire treatment. Hestus operates without gas and uses green electricity.

Fire-Retardant Treatment
Wood treated by Hestus is impregnated with Burnblock® powder — a certified product made from 100% natural ingredients. Key advantages of this fire retardant:

- Low maintenance (wood is fully impregnated)

Fire class D
As of August 20, 2024, all wood used in buildings, including thermally modified wood, must demonstrably meet Fire Class D. Good news: untreated Platowood Spruce and Fraké already meet these requirements as standard. Therefore, fire-retardant treatment from Hestus is not required in such cases.
