Glass, Metal, and Platowood Fraké for a Villa in Schiedam

In the historic city center of Schiedam, stats architecten has designed an expressive and modern villa that harmoniously blends glass, metal, and wood. The entire exterior of the home is clad in untreated Platowood Fraké, chosen to meet the client’s wish for the use of pure, authentic materials. By leaving the wood untreated, it will naturally weather over time, preserving its raw and honest aesthetic.

Architect Ralph van de Donk explains: “The client specifically wanted untreated wood, so we explored durable wood options. We ultimately chose Platowood Fraké, a beautiful and sustainable alternative to hardwood. Platowood offers a long lifespan, excellent dimensional stability, and a graceful greying process. It’s the best available option when it comes to modified wood.” This villa showcases how modern architecture and natural materials can come together in a refined and lasting way.
