OOKarchitecten from Amersfoort have transformed a former 1938 garage into their new architectural studio. For all interior and exterior frames, doors, and trims, they chose Platowood Fraké. One standout feature: the studio’s logo engraved on the front door.
Platowood wood is already a highly sustainable choice, but this project goes a step further: all doors are reused. Construction company Karbouw also based in Amersfoort, had leftover Platowood Fraké doors from a previous project. They donated them to OOKarchitecten, giving the doors a beautiful new purpose.
Architect Martin Timmerman explains: “We chose Platowood because it’s low-maintenance and produced sustainably. We applied the wood untreated, as we love the natural progression of its weathering. It gives a raw, honest look that suits this characterful building — where layers of change since 1938 are visible in every corner.”
