Archetypal wooden Villa Navis clad in Platowood Fraké

An archetypal house to the eye. Light. Minimalist. Finished with roof and façade cladding made of Platowood Fraké in an open Platonium 05 profile.

Moca Architecten — formerly Plan B — designed a wooden house and intentionally chose to make the material visible on the exterior. They brought wood back into the façade and selected Platowood Fraké with a pre-greying finish to complete both the roof and façade.

Platowood Fraké is particularly favored by Moca. Architect and owner Huub Bieleman explains: “Platowood Fraké is a fantastic product. Sustainably modified in an environmentally friendly way, which makes it ideal for outdoor use. The color and workability of Fraké complement our designs well. We prescribe it almost by default.”

Pre-Greyed Wood

Usually, the firm works without a pre-greying finish. But due to the varying sun exposures and large overhangs on this project, they opted for a pre-greyed treatment.

“This prevents color variation,” says Bieleman.

A Unique and Timeless Wooden Design

The concept behind the villa features a masonry base topped with a perpendicular, archetypal house — all kept as minimalist as possible. The base structure is timber frame construction. The upper level of the villa is made entirely of CLT (Cross-Laminated Timber), eliminating the need for columns to support the roof volume. This reinforces the block shape, which also functions as a terrace cover and shields the interior from the southern sun.

The result is Villa Navis, a unique, detached home. A recognizable landmark in the town of Doesburg, Gelderland, distinguished by its eye-catching volume clad in Platowood Fraké.
