In the heart of Utrecht, a new apartment complex was completed in just four months, made possible by prefabricated timber frame construction. The building is fully clad in Platowood Poplar. Its natural appearance and curved forms blend seamlessly into the park-like setting of the Monicahof. The project is CO₂-negative.
Architect Ramin Visch, Studio Ramin Visch: “The wooden cladding gives the building a soft and modest character. We chose Platowood Poplar for its appearance and the sustainability of the wood. Everyone I speak to is very enthusiastic and says the design fits beautifully into the green surroundings. At the moment, a timber extension in Naarden is also being built with Platowood — its detailing was inspired by the Monicahof.”
