Fire retardant treatment For more and more projects, wood with Euro fire class B is required. Since wood does not naturally meet this standard, Platowood wood can be treated with a fire-retardant solution so that it does comply with this fire class. For this purpose, Platowood offers the following options: impregnation based on 100% natural ingredients and Euro fire class B.

Impregnation based on natural products

Platowood Fraké, Poplar, and Spruce can be impregnated with a biological fire retardant. This treatment cannot be washed out by water or broken down by UV light. The wood therefore does not need to be finished.

Pre-weathering
If desired, the wood can be finished with a pre-weathering stain, the Weathered Color.

Frequently asked
questions

Standard Platowood has a fire class of D-s2, d0. With the FireProtect treatment, this is upgraded to B-s2, d0. The exact fire class may vary depending on the wood type, treatment, and application.

The fire safety of a wooden façade depends on the configuration. In general, fire spreads more quickly in an open façade than in a closed one. Without fire-retardant treatment, our wood has Euro fire class D.

Platowood wood can be treated well with stain or oil. However, keep in mind that stain and oil can affect the fire performance of your wood. Adding wood oil can enhance the warm brown color and make the grain patterns even more visible.
