Weathered

If wood is not directly exposed to sunlight, for example under an overhang, the wood surface will grey more slowly. This can lead to color differences. For a more uniform greying process, Platowood wood can be treated with a pre-weathering stain. This finish is called Weathered. It bridges the visual transition from brown wood to a weathered façade and ensures a consistently greyed appearance.

More even greying

If you want a more even greying on your façade, a pre-weathering stain is the perfect solution. Areas with a lot of sun exposure will degrade faster and naturally grey.

Natural color

Platowood wood weathers to a silver-grey tone. This means our pre-weathering stain also contains a metallic component to mimic the look of naturally weathered wood.

No maintenance

Because a pre-weathering stain is also allowed to degrade, there is no maintenance required as with other color finishes. Apart from an annual cleaning, your façade is therefore maintenance-free.

High fire class

Did you know that our Weathered finish is compatible with a fire-retardant treatment by Hestus?

This natural-looking finish is suitable for Platowood Fraké, Spruce and Poplar. The finish has been developed to give the wood a grey colour that mimics the natural greying process. The idea behind this is that the wood has a uniform colour upon installation. After installation, the coating gradually degrades under the influence of weather and sunlight. The natural greying of the wood will then gradually take over. Areas that are less exposed or not exposed to weathering will degrade more slowly and retain their colour through the coating. The greying of the wood is a completely natural process influenced by a wide range of factors.

Due to stricter fire class regulations, oil-based finishes are no longer available. Stain finishes, however, remain available. Our Weathered finish was previously called Weathered Color Oil and Weathered Color Stain.

Standard Platowood has a fire class of D-s2, d0. With the FireProtect treatment, this is upgraded to B-s2, d0. The exact fire class may vary depending on the wood type, treatment, and application.
